So I think each project will be different depending on the cage you have or purchase.  But I’ll run through the basics on what my birdcage required me to do 🙂

Buy sheet-style moss from a  craft store to protect and disguise the root systems of your plants.  I cut the sheets to fit around the perimeter and floor of my birdcage.  I used hot glue to secure it on the inside so the glue would be hidden.  Break up your roots well, and plant them!  I have to water daily since there’s no real way to hold lots of moisture in.  It makes a great addition to my flower beds, dangling from a miniature Shepherd’s hook.
